Di-vision- apart/separate/divided sight
Timothy (10) is intensely interested in studying Greek and Latin roots and asked me to review his dictionary with him last night. Division was one of our review words and it struck me.
“And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:25
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” Matt 6:22
If a body, whether that body be a marriage or a church, do not have unified vision, it “cannot stand”.
The reason this struck me last night is that we have just decided to move to a different church. I kept wanting to bear with them, to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it seemed like every time I turned around something else slapped me in the face about how we do not share the same vision.
The latest was the selection of books for their men’s Bible Study. It was “Man of Steel and Velvet: A Guide to Masculine Development” by Aubrey Andelin. It’s pretty much the Piper/Grudem/Driscoll/Ware party line on “roles” written by a committed Mormon in the 1970’s.
I’m sure they mean well. And I am grateful for the pastor and the elder for providing accountability to my husband as he made a certain phone call.
Nevertheless, they and I do not have the same vision and its time to separate.
