Continued from “oikosdespotes”- OYE! WHAT a DESPOT!
Over the past several weeks, the intensity of the abusiveness and spiritual warfare going on in my household has ratcheded up, or should I say ratcheted DOWN to new lows
I have had to be VERY aggressive and proactive about protecting myself and my children and standing up to my husband’s bad behavior. I have also had to stand up to the church’s FAILURE to acknowledge the gravity of the problem and respond proactively and protectively on our behalf.
I attended a Sunday School recently which was on 1 Timothy 2:11-15. The discussion turned to the authority of husbands. I had just recently read this from “Man of Her Dreams, Woman of His” by Joel and Kathy Davisson and I attempted to explain “oikedespotes” to the class. One man challenged me, saying “But being a ‘DESPOT’ is a BAD thing.” I was rather flustered and I’m sure that my points did not register to anyone, but I did later give that man a copy of the 3 pages from Joel Davisson.
The words of that man in Sunday school ring in my ears. Except he thinks “being a Despot” is a BAD thing. But God would not have COMMANDED it of a Christian wife if it was a BAD thing. No, my being a DESPOT is NOT a BAD thing! MY BEING A DESPOT is a NECESSARY thing, an annointed thing, a GOD THING.
In intimate times with the Lord I FEEL HIS PLEASURE. It is as if HE is saying to me: “THAT is the spirit. You are doing such a GOOD JOB being a DESPOT!” Yesterday I got this comical picture in my mind of Angels eating popcorn and cheering me on while they watch the DRAMA of my life.
[...] Here are posts with my personal testimony of how understanding this ONE GREEK WORD changed my life:

Your blog is terrific! I’ve walked where you’re walking and you will be in my prayers. I’ve linked to your blog on mine because what you’re saying is right on and fits in with the message I’m attempting to communicate as well. Part of my purpose is to spotlight abuse in Christian marriages and the failure of the church to deal with the problem.
Keep speaking the truth!
